Per Diem Rates

Per Diem is a charge based on a fixed rate per day, which equipment provider makes against another carrier or customer for use of its various types of containers, trailers and other equipment.

Each Steamship Line and Railroad company that provides intermodal equipment has a Per Diem tariff that determines rules and rates by which detention charges will be calculated when applicable. It is important to review these details, especially on frequently used steamship lines so additional charges can be anticipated, should a need arise to use equipment for extended periods of time.

This document covers most steamship lines per diem rates, terms, calendar rules and other details on various equipment types and is only provided as a reference. Terms are subject to change and may not be current.
